New Blog Design Is Live!

Hi Everybody,

Just a quick update, this week has flown by…

Hey – the new design – what do you think?

– Went from three column to two column
– Simple color scheme
– Streamlined access to other areas on the site

The goal was to make things easier for you to read, post, to move around and share.

Was the goal met?   I’d love to hear your thoughts below! 🙂

There are still a few things to update on the site and I’m continuing my work on traffic.  I’ll have more on that for you in the coming week. So that’s about it for now.

I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Be safe and enjoy!

Keepin’ It Real,

    Hi Donna,

looks like you’ve gone to a lot of effort to get your new look blog up and running. Yes, I agree with you, a 2 column format is heaps better. It doesn’t look as cluttered as b4 and the lines look clean.

Wonder what Grand Poo Bah Alex Jeffreys will say tonight.

This design looks very clean and organised.

How long it take you to put this new design together?

    • Donna November 25, 2012 at 7:47 pm #

      Hi Gary,

Thanks for your feedback on the new design! I actually outsourced to have the work done. Up front it took me a few hours to answer a questionnaire and provide details to the contractor on what I was looking for with the new design. After an initial design was drafted, we went through a feedback process to fine tune the details. There are still some areas to work on but the overall design is in place. Thanks again for stopping by!

    Hi Donna,

your blog is certainly nice and clean and easy to steer round. So, I’d say ‘Yes’ you have achieved your objective. Actually, I am thinking of doing something with mine as I think it kinda looks a little clogged up at times. Then again, I do like the overall message … hmmm!

    • Donna November 25, 2012 at 8:06 pm #

      Hi Paul,

Thanks for your feedback on the new design! It’s good to hear the objective was met. I can relate to your thought process on designing. It took me awhile to decide what to do with my blog design – there were some things I liked and some things I didn’t like with the old design. Over time things worked out. I look forward to stopping by to see your blog. Thanks again for visiting!

    Hi Donna,

Its Mallik here. Your new design is awesome. Remember that simple designs always connect more easily with people and I have seen time and again people connect well with simple, amateurish designs either its for sales letters, web pages, youtube videos or squeeze pages. Its already proved by expert marketers out there. Its a powerful technique now a days not many people understand or know.

If you don’t believe me go here :

How simple the site design is. Its almost like as if you are seeing a MS Word document online.

This site is getting some amazing traffic around 3000 unique visitors per day which is unbelievable. Don’t take my word for this. Go and check on and type the above url and go to dashboard tab for the traffic data this site gets.

Did you see the impact of simple design and good SEO tactics that this site uses to get that kind of traffic.

I don’t mean that you can easily do away with websites by piecing together some junk wordpress theme and plug-ins with some junk design without any proper care. I only mean designs with no extra bells and whistles and which are more like MS Word documents in look and feel are doing well these days.

At the end of the day how well you connect and relate to your audience matters than anything else to get that trust and credibility.

      Hey Mallik,

Thanks for stopping by and for providing your feedback!

It’s very interesting, the effectiveness of simple designs. When I was doing research for this design I looked at a lot of blogs and realized the ones that stood out the most were simple and easy to move around in. I also found the ones that had a larger font size were much easier to read through, so that was included in this design as well. I think if a reader has to struggle with each line to get through it, they will be less likely to stay and read the entire post.

I also agree that connecting and relating to your audience is critical. If you don’t do that then even the best design in the world won’t be effective.

Thanks again for your comments! 🙂

    Hey Donna,

I love 2 column blogs, I guess our brains is just more accustomed to it , rather than 3 or 4 column blogs.
I like the simplicity of the layout, to the point.

    Hey Donna,

I checked out your site in the Internet archives and saw that while it wasn’t really cluttered, it definitely could hurt your visitor’s attention to other places.

I LOVE how neat, clean and easy to navigate is the new theme.

Also going from three columns to just two is a big improvement itself.

Congratulations and here’s to a great 2013 for you and your new awesome looking blog! 😉
