Memorial Day Remembrance

As we spend this Memorial Day weekend with our
family and friends let us also keep in mind
the true meaning of the day…

– To remember and honor those who have died
in service to the nation –

In December 2000, “The National Moment of
Remembrance Act” was passed into law.

The following information explains the act and was
obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs
website at:
http://www1.va.gov/opa/speceven/memday/history.asp

“The National Moment of Remembrance encourages
all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m.
local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence
to remember and honor those who have died in service
to the nation. As Moment of Remembrance founder
Carmella LaSpada states: “It’s a way we can all help
put the memorial back in Memorial Day.””

So as we gather this weekend, let us also
remember and honor those who gave their lives
in service to our great nation and be forever
grateful to them for our freedoms!

I wish all of you and your families a
very safe and happy holiday weekend!
