Giveaway events are wonderful places to
access free information and resources for
online business owners.

If you’ve spent anytime online you may
already be familiar with these events.

A giveaway is an event that generally has
a theme, is located at one website, and has
a start and end time for the event.

Individuals and businesses contribute free
gifts within the theme category, such as
Internet Marketing or Self Improvement, and
all the gifts then become available to those
who sign up as members to that event.

There are three things needed to get access to
a giveaway event. The first is an invitation
to the event through a special link. After
accessing the invitation, the second thing
that needs to happen is to register as a
member. The third part is that registration
must happen before the closing date and time
of the event.

It’s free to register as a member and once
inside you have access to all the gifts
available for that event.

There is usually an option to upgrade as a
member for a small fee. This will allow
the member to be able to download the
gifts directly without having to opt-in
through the contributor’s page.

Although the upgrade option can save you
some time, it is not necessary to be able
to access the free gifts.

Inside the event you can browse through
the selections and determine which ones
you want to access. And if you want to
download every item available you can do
that as well.

Giveaways really are goldmine opportunities
and I recommend taking advantage of these
events as often as you can. They are a great place
to find various kinds of resources such as eBooks,
software, memberships, scripts, etc., and the best
part is these resources are totally free to members!

Email Autoresponder Messages

If you are building a list of subscribers
you are probably familiar with email
autoresponder services.

One important part of an email autoresponder
service is that it allows you to send various
messages to your list of subscribers.

There are two types of messages that can
be sent – follow up and broadcast.

Follow up messages are those messages that
can be prepared to be sent at certain
intervals from the sign up date of the
subscriber. For example, you may have
a message ready to be sent out immediately
after someone signs up.

If you want to send another message three
days later, you can set it up to go out
automatically for three days later. Once
you have the messages input into your
account system, the messages will go out
automatically at the time intervals you
have scheduled for each message.

Broadcast messages are those messages that
can be sent immediately or scheduled for
a specific day and time.

You create the message and designate when
it should be sent out to your list. When
the message is ready it can be queued up
to be sent. The system will then send the
message on the specific day and time you
have set for that message.

Sending messages to your list of subscribers
is a great way to stay connected and to
provide valuable information and resources.

A strategy for Internet marketing businesses
is to build a list of subcribers. Once you
have a list you can then communicate with your
list and provide valuable information and
resources.

The two basic elements for list building are:
- A squeeze page
- An email autoresponder

The squeeze page and autoresponder work hand
in hand to getting a list started.

A squeeze page is also known as a landing
page, magnetizer page or sign-up page. It
is a simple website, usually one page, that’s
designed for the single purpose of getting
an interested individual to sign up onto
your email list.

The squeeze page will contain a sign up box
where a name and email address can be entered.
This box is generated by an email autoresponder
service and is specific to your account.

When someone signs up on your squeeze page, the
name and email information is captured and
stored in a database maintained by the email
autoresponder service. This stored list of
names and emails then becomes your list.

Once you have a list of subscribers you can
connect with them through your autoresponder
service by sending various messages. This helps
you stay connected with your subscribers and
gives you a way to provide valuable information
and resources.

Email Autoresponder Services

If you are planning to use email marketing as
part of your business it helps to have an email
autoresponder service to handle your list.

Basically, the service will handle the management
of your list including but not limited to:
- Host the database of the names/email addresses
- Provide you the capability to send out messages
- Includes spam compliant information in your emails
- Handles unsubscribe requests
- Tracks the number of subscribers in your account

The service should also provide a way to capture
the names and email addresses on your web page.
Usually a web form is created at the email
autoresponder site. You then place the html code
for that form onto your own web site. This form
then captures the information and stores it into
your account database.

There are many services available for use in your
business and you can find out more by doing an
Internet search for these type services. The features
and pricing will vary so it’s best to check around
to determine which company will meet your needs.

The two services I use and am most familiar with
are AutomateYourList and Aweber and I’ve been
very pleased with both of their services.

As an online business owner having an email
autoresponder service to manage your list is
an important consideration.

Tips to Getting Started Online

You’re looking for options to make some
additional income. You decide to try
an online business. You’re excited to
get started and sit at your computer to
get going and then…

You’re not sure what to do next?

Starting an online business sounds like
an easy task and with so much information
readily available online it seems that
getting started is as easy as sitting in
front of your computer for a few hours.

And we probably already spend that amount
of time online checking our emails or
connecting with others via social media
sites like Facebook and Twitter.

So it really can’t be that difficult, can it?

From my own experience I’ve learned that
while setting up an online business is
simpler and less expensive than the traditional
brick and mortar business, the business
requirements are not that much different.

There are still some basic elements and
considerations required. And there will be
some work involved – I know, ‘work’ is not
a word you hear frequently when talking
about having an online business. But I assure
you, just like any other business, doing
some work should be expected if you really
want to succeed online.

Given the expectation of having to do some
work, here are a few tips for getting started
with an online business:

- Be clear on the reasons why you want an
online business

- Determine where your office space will be
and plan for any necessary equipment and
supplies

- Understand what basic skills will be needed
and update your skills as necessary

- Find your niche by identifing your passions,
interests and strengths, then conduct online
research to evaluate markets

- Establish a business plan and identify goals

Just getting some of the basics in place can
help make the process of starting online go a
little smoother. Realize there will be some
work involved and plan accordingly. You may
discover that having an online business can
be a rewarding experience after all.

Work Your Priorities

Have you ever felt that despite all the
activities you are doing in your business you
don’t seem to get the right things accomplished?

I know I have and it can be very frustrating.
Having your own business can be taxing,
especially when you’re just getting started.

You find yourself playing all the business
roles as owner, web master, accountant, analyst,
advertiser, marketer, etc. And along with the
roles comes all the responsibilities, which at
times can be overwhelming.

Something I found that helps me through this
is to make a list of what needs to be done and
then identifying which items on the list are the
most important.

The most important activities are then scheduled
first and any available time is spent on getting
those items completed. Any other items can be
worked on after that.

There is only so much time available each day
and knowing which tasks are most important for the
business helps me focus the time I do have wisely.

Sometimes it’s not how much you get done but
rather what gets done that matters most.

I think Stephen Covey says it best:

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your
schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”

Time Management Is Essential For Home Business

Time can be a funny thing for home
business ownership. It’s easy to think
we will have more time because we don’t
have a long commute to work or that we
have so much flexibility we’ll be able to
get more done.

And those are great advantages to working
from home. The disadvantages come into
play when it becomes too comfortable to
put things off, knowing we’ll get to them
later – because we THINK we have more time.

In reality though the time we have each
day is the same amount of time each day-
it’s really how we manage our time that
makes all the difference.

I think just being aware of this fact is
key for managing your time. Here are a
few things to keep in mind to help manage
your time and home business activities.

Setting specific and measureable goals
can help you stay on track. You are your
own boss and as such you are accountable
to yourself in what gets done each day.

Having set business hours can help establish
focused time for business activities. It
also provides a framework to help family and
friends understand when you are and are not
available for other activities.

Taking a serious approach to home business
success sets the standard for work activities
and how they are accomplished. How you think
of your own business will be a reflection in
how others perceive your business.

Just being aware of how precious time really
is can guide us towards home business success.
And remember that each small step taken every
day can get us closer to our goals.
